KeyBank Center opened in 1996 and is home to the Buffalo Sabres. The downtown arena replaced Buffalo Memorial Auditorium and sits beside LECOM Harborcenter and Canalside on the city’s waterfront.
The Sabres joined the NHL in 1970 and reached the Stanley Cup Final in 1975 and 1999. KeyBank Center has carried several names since opening, including Marine Midland Arena, HSBC Arena and First Niagara Center.
How many seats are in KeyBank Center?
KeyBank Center seats 19,070 for Sabres games. A new videoboard was installed in 2024, followed by a new audio system and entry and concession upgrades for the 2025-26 season. Renovation work has been phased, so future projects should not be assumed complete until the team announces them.

Directions and public transit
The arena is at 1 Seymour H. Knox III Plaza in downtown Buffalo. NFTA Metro Rail serves the Erie Canal Harbor station beside the arena, and several downtown bus routes stop nearby. The rail trip through downtown’s above-ground section is fare-free.
Drivers can reach the arena area from Interstate 190. Traffic around the waterfront tightens close to game time, particularly when other events are taking place downtown.
Parking
Parking is available in the KeyBank Center ramp and surface lots, at LECOM Harborcenter and in other downtown facilities. Arena parking is cashless, and purchasing a pass before the event can reduce uncertainty on arrival.
Entry, bags and payment
Bags, purses and backpacks are prohibited. A clutch no larger than 4 by 6 by 1.5 inches is allowed, with exceptions for medical and diaper bags after screening. The arena is cashless and accepts cards and mobile wallets.
Doors generally open 90 minutes before Sabres games. Re-entry is not allowed, so bring everything you need through security the first time.
Things to do near KeyBank Center
Canalside and the Buffalo waterfront are immediately outside the arena, with seasonal activities and paths along the Buffalo River. LECOM Harborcenter is connected to KeyBank Center and includes additional hockey and dining facilities.
